Coronavirus (COVID-19)

“Coronavirus” or “novel coronavirus”
and “2019-nCoV” are the names for the new virus, which spread in
December 2019 in Wuhan, China. The virus was identified as a coronavirus in
January 2020. It is part of the same virus family as Sars and Mers. A month
later, in February 2020, it got the name Sars-Cov-2. The name stands for
“Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus 2”. The virus causes lung disease Covid-19 (COrona VIrus
Disease 2019).
The World Health Organization (WHO) has been talking about a
pandemic since March 11, 2020.

The coronavirus Sars-Cov-2 is spreading more and more in the
world.

Covid-19, the lung disease caused by the coronavirus, is
transmitted from person to person. According to experts, Sars-CoV-2, like the
related diseases Sars and Mers, should spread via droplet infection. As with
Sars and Mers, Corona appears in stool samples. According to the Robert Koch
Institute (RKI), it is not yet certain whether the coronavirus will also spread
faecal-orally.

Coronavirus (COVID-19) Symptoms

The time from infection to onset of the disease can last up
to 14 days (incubation period). Anyone with the coronavirus is infected, it can
Corona symptoms have.

  • To Cough
  • Fever
  • Sniff
  • Sore Throat
  • Diarrhoea
  • Breathing Problems
  • Lung Infection

Patients in whom the coronavirus is more severe often have
breathing problems and pneumonia. In particular, elderly patients or people
with chronic medical conditions die statistically more often than others. The
Robert Koch Institute (RKI) reports that around two per cent die from the corona.
However, it is likely that “this percentage is actually lower because of the
data refer to hospitalized patients,” says the RKI.

Coronavirus (COVID-19) Treatment

Currently, there is no specific therapy against those of Corona
– induced lung disease Covid-19th Therefore, measures depend on the course of
the disease. Oxygenation, fluid balance or antibiotic intake can be used.
Existing underlying diseases are treated. Since there is no specific therapy
against Covid-19, scientists are already researching drugs. So far, however,
there is no active ingredient.

Coronavirus (COVID-19) Vaccine

There is also no vaccination against the coronavirus.
Progress has been made on vaccines against Mers coronaviruses. According to the
RKI, these are currently being tested in clinical studies. However, they are
not yet available for an application. A coronavirus vaccine could potentially
be tested in summer 2020. Scientists are currently continuing to research
vaccines against corona.

Coronavirus (COVID-19) Quarantine
For 14 Days

Since the incubation period for Corona’s lung disease
Covid-19 lasts a maximum of 14 days, contact persons of infected people must
remain in quarantine for 14 days. The health department then checks the
patient’s state of health.

If symptoms are present, the health department can act
quickly. In addition, a quarantine ensures that the coronavirus cannot be
passed on. This is to prevent and reduce the spread of the virus.

Coronavirus (COVID-19) Test

In order to test the coronavirus, a method is used that is
also used in paternity tests. We are talking about the polymerase chain
reaction (PCR). In this test, researchers take swabs from the throat and nose
and examine them. Test results will be there in a day or two. To be tested for corona,
people must have symptoms and have been in a risk area or have had contact with
a confirmed corona case within the past 14 days.

Wuhan And China Were Particularly
Affected By Corona

The Chinese city of Wuhan and the Hubei region were
particularly hard hit by the coronavirus. All train and flight connections to
and from Wuhan have been discontinued. Bus and subway traffic was also
discontinued. Residents were not allowed to leave Wuhan.

An emergency hospital with around 1,000 beds was also built
in Wuhan. People suffering from Covid-19 were treated there. The situation in
Wuhan (as of March 20, 2020) is now looking better. People’s lives are slowly
returning to normal.

Coronavirus (COVID-19) Precautions

touch. Therefore, you should wash your hands regularly – even if they are not
dirty. You should wash your hands for 20 to 30 seconds.

Hygiene When Coughing
And Sneezing:
When coughing and sneezing, the coronavirus can
be passed on by droplet infection. Therefore, when coughing or sneezing, keep

dispose of it. If you don’t have a handkerchief at hand, you should sneeze into
the crook of your arm or cough and turn away from other people.
